So, as you know I had a baby 4.5 months ago…and just realized today I NEVER shared her birth pictures/story! So in lue in all my posts today, I thought, why not!
I was scheduled to be induced on February 27th (I am induced a week early due to my last baby being 9lbs 12ounces at 39 weeks – my frame cant handle delivering any larger than that!), but before they were going to give me any drugs to get things started, I was hoping to get things going naturally. They broke my water at about 9:30 in the morning, and then nothing. A whole lotta nothin. We walked, we rocked, we played cards, nothing. After about 5 hours of nothing happening, the doctor suggested we try to hook me up to the breast pump, as stimulation can often get things rolling, so thats what we did, and MAN did it work!! I walked around after the intervels of breast pump for about a half hour and was in full active labor, but unfortunately, no change in dialation. My awesome nurse Jill (shes the one doing “Superstar” below) suggested I take a warm bath to relax. I stepped into the bath at about 5 cm and 15-20 minutes later and came out an 8. By this point, being drug-free, I was screaming like a sailor and begging for an epidural.
They got the drug guy in the room quickly, set up and ready to go when I over heard my husband and nurse talking, saying, she’s almost there, its going to happen quick…just hearing that gave me that last push of ‘courage’ that I needed and I decided to stay drug-free for the home stretch. Literally 2 contractions later I was at a 10 and ready to push! After a quick 10 minutes of pushing (and labor that lasted about and hour and a half from start to delivered), little Emmie was brought into our lives. It was the most tramatic, terrifying yet amazing, rewarding accomplishment I can honestly say of my life!
Awesome photographer and besty Betsy Wall was their by our sides for the whole thing, capturing these images I will cherish for a lifetime!
